Product Description

Monocrystalline probes are particularly useful for measuring coatings. They are used with meters in multiple echo mode. The probes are made of stainless steel and have a soft face with a replaceable diaphragm. This protects the probe surface, ensuring years of reliable and accurate operation.

Probe diaphragms

Cygnus single crystal probes have a protective membrane mounted on the front of the probe face to protect it from damage during use. The diaphragm also helps to 'fit' the probe face to the surfaces being measured. The performance of the probe depends on the condition of the diaphragm and how well it has been fitted. Cygnus recommends replacing diaphragms frequently as a precaution or at the first sign of scratching, tearing or damage. Diaphragms are available in two materials, the standard polyurethane diaphragm is suitable for surface temperatures up to 167°F (75°C), the Teflon diaphragm is suitable for surface temperatures up to 302°F (150°C) with a maximum contact time of 5 seconds.

Membrane connector

A membrane coupler should be used between the membrane and the probe face. This forms a thin film of oil to allow ultrasonic penetration.

A 25 ml bottle of Membrane Couplant is included in each meter kit. Knurled rings and diaphragm locking ring spanners The knurled ring supplied with each monocrystalline probe holds the diaphragm in place. The diaphragm key is used to unscrew and screw in the locking ring in which the diaphragm is mounted.
